Since the promulgation of the federal Storm Water Permitting Program in the early 1990s, GZA’s water quality and permitting specialists have been assisting industry, municipalities, airports, utilities, solid waste facilities, and universities and colleges with storm water permitting and management challenges.
Our storm water project assignments have ranged from preparation of individual NPDES permit applications to completion of no-exposure certifications including submittals of Notices of Intent for permit coverage, design and implementation of storm water monitoring programs, and development of Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPPs). GZA has completed over 200 storm water permit-related assignments since the early 1990s.
GZA’s storm water management staff consists of diverse professional practitioners with decades of combined experience, which allows for a practical approach to storm water management. We have completed over 100 SWPPPs, compliance evaluations, and sampling programs. GZA has evaluated a multitude of site-specific permitting challenges arising from proper storm water management. We have routinely assisted agencies, municipalities, and commercial and industrial clients with managing point and non-point pollution sources from initial evaluation and design through construction. GZA accomplishes the objectives of sound storm water management through the implementation of Best Management Practices (BMPs), which are measures or practices used to reduce the amount of pollution released to surface water, air, land, and groundwater. GZA believes a pro-active posture in implementing both structural and non-structural BMPs can be a prudent watershed management approach to mitigating the water quality impacts from site runoff, thereby reducing the likelihood of potential enforcement actions from local, state, and/or federal environmental regulators.
