Design, construction and maintenance of marine structures require a variety of specialized engineering services. A wide range of structural types, severe environmental conditions, and rapid degradation of materials present many challenges to the owner and designer of marine facilities. GZA offers the experience and resources to meet the challenge of designing, permitting and maintaining structures in this hostile environment. GZA provides full design services for all types of new and rehabilitated marine and heavy construction projects. These projects include:
- Piers
Wharves
Bulkheads
Shipyard Facilities
Ship Berthing & Mooring Systems
Cranes, Craneways, On-off Loading Facilities
Breakwaters & Shore Protection
Marinas
To obtain the parameters required to design these marine structures, GZA can perform subsurface explorations such as borings, either on land or over water, and complete geotechnical field testing. Geophysical studies and hydrographic and bathymetric surveys can also be provided, as well as wind, wave, storm surge, current and tidal studies, and sampling and testing of sediment for environmental purposes. Using these findings, GZA can prepare permit applications for such activities as construction of marine structures and dredging at marine facilities for federal and state regulatory agencies. During the construction phase, GZA’s experienced field engineers observe construction work for compliance with the project plans and specifications, and develop timely and responsive solutions to address unanticipated conditions.
